Welcome to the website of the Whaup Hotel.

... workers, musicians and many others; all drinking at honest prices and recounting countless tales involving the things that make the ‘Whaup’ unique.

It is offered that the Inn and indeed village was so called in recognition of the Whaup, or a
Curlew to the non Scottish visitor. A bird common along shorelines, whose call may be recognised as a typical loud, throaty cur-lew. The song is said to begin slowly and accelerate into an ecstatic, rich, bubbling chorus … sounds like the ‘Whaup’ all right!

The Whaup may be located 12 miles south west of Newton Stewart on the B7085 .
