A History by Agnes 'Nancy' McClymont

.. Grocers stores which used to stay open until the nine o'clock train arrived delivering the Galloway Gazette which caused the street and pub to be packed out!

The Curling rink was a treat to see in the winter, with the men Curling under the floodlights. My Granfather looked after it and he was also the village Hall Keeper.

The Whaup Landlady at that time was Mrs Roney and she collected money through selling cream teas etc to build the current hall as the old hall in my garden was declared unsafe in 1933. My Auntie May remembers the Old Hall, with cows below and them dancing upstairs! She was 96 on December 28th 2005 and is still living by herself.

We had our Sports Days at Barnbarroch House which was great day out before it became overgrown following it being burnt down in 1941.
